To help the cat find a new home, the shelter held a birthday celebration, but nobody showed up.

A two-year-old tabby cat was hoping to celebrate her second birthday with a loving new family, but instead she went partying alone.

Say hello to Monique!

She had already spent 100 days at the animal shelter waiting for the right family to come and adopt her, but no one came.

With no one to apply for her adoption, the staff at the Battersea Cat and Dog Home decided to throw her a party in hopes of finding someone interested in Monique joining their family.

They decorated Monique’s pen and gave her special toys.

When the big day rolled around, not a single person showed up to meet Monique, despite the shelter’s best efforts to blanket the community with invitations to the party.

Staff suspected that people would put off adopting Monique because she has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

Many believe that since FIV in cats is an incurable condition, it is instantly fatal. In reality, FIV-positive felines (similar to HIV-positive humans) can lead normal, healthy, and happy lives.

Whoever decided to adopt Monique would have to leave their garden.

This would give him a chance to enjoy the outside world without coming into contact with other cats and potentially spreading the virus.

It is worth mentioning that FIV cannot be transmitted to humans.

All shelter staff describe Monique as a kind and loving soul who enjoys human company.

It’s always sad when a pet needs a loving home, especially when it would make an ideal loving companion.

When photos of his solo party were posted on social media, they quickly went viral.

The shelter was hoping that the perfect person would see them.

And that’s exactly what happened to this furry tabby!

Londoner Adnan was watching the local news one night when he saw Monique’s face on the screen.

He knew at that moment that he and Monique would make the perfect couple, so he requested to be her forever human.

In no time, he settled into his forever home and Adnan couldn’t be happier.

“Monique and I have been alone since March,” explains Adnan.

“She is very talkative and greets me every morning and can be very bossy when she wants treats. He follows me around the house, he touches me with his paw so that I scratch myself and he butts me with his head so that he hugs me.

Monique loves her new life with her forever human.

“Initially she was eager to jump on my lap (which was interesting when I was working). But now he has decided that his many nap spots are much more comfortable and will call me scratching instead.”

We wish Monique and Adnan a long and happy life together!

The shelter has said they are still receiving inquiries from people willing to give him a home; Let’s hope everyone decides to adopt another cat in need.
