The golden-browed chlorophony is found mainly in Costa Rica and Panama, where the climate is pleasantly warm and muggy. They belong to the family Fringillidae and are known for their average length of 13 cm (5.1 in). The species’ feathers are typically bright green above and yellow below, with a narrow blue eye ring and a thin blue line extending from the nape of the neck to the chest. While both males and females have slight differences, males have a wide golden-yellow eyebrow stripe and a violet-blue cap, which females lack, and their green is replaced with other colors.

In addition to its striking appearance, the Golden-browed Chlorophony has a soft whistle: wheeeeuuu. An interesting legend surrounds this bird. It is commonly known as Rualdo in Costa Rica, and locals believe that the species used to have a wonderful singing voice, but offered it to the Poás volcano to prevent the sacrifice of a young woman and prevent the volcano from erupting.
