On August 2, Toyota officially launched the new generation Land Cruiser Prado, expected to be delivered to customers from next year. The car shares the TNGA-F chassis platform with the Lexus GX and its “senior” Land Cruiser 300.
In the new generation, the exterior design is classic. Some similarities with the Lexus GX with the same chassis can be seen through the raised shoulder line gradually rising. However, the Toyota’s approach looks classic, intuitive and less flamboyant than the Lexus.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 launched globally on the morning of August 2.
The front of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is equipped with a square front bumper with a rectangular radiator. The standard version and the limited First Edition version use round LED headlights while the high-end version uses rectangular headlights.
At the rear of the car, the horizontal taillights hugging the tailgate do not appear, instead there are 2 square clusters of lights with a simple design placed on both sides. The original size spare tire is neatly placed under the rear bumper. The windows at the tailgate can be opened independently.
Inside, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, at least in North America, only has a 5-seat option. The interior uses a lot of soft plastic on the upper half of the dashboard and doors, along with improved hard plastic to avoid the “rough” feeling of a low-end car.
From the standard version, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has heated front seats and steering wheel with fabric seats. The mid-size version uses Softex artificial leather with heated/ventilated front seats while the limited First Edition uses genuine leather.
The default central screen is 8 inches in size, increasing to 12.3 inches on the high-end versions. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot warning appear by default on all versions.
In terms of powertrain, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado continues to differentiate itself from the Lexus GX and Land Cruiser 300, which share the same chassis. While the two models above run on a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado uses a single-turbocharged 2.4L I-4 engine. This engine’s capacity is 326 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque.
Not stopping there, the 48-horsepower electric motor in the 8-speed automatic transmission also helps the Toyota SUV to possess good instant torque. Combined with the full-time 2-wheel drive system with automatic center limited-slip differential and rear differential lock, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado promises to have very good off-road performance.
The ground clearance of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 is announced at 220 mm. The approach, departure and overtaking angles of the vehicle are 31, 22 and 25 degrees respectively.
In addition to the hardware that supports off-road capabilities, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado also has software specifically for this purpose. Crawl Control technology automatically adjusts speed and brakes when operating off-road at low speeds so that users can focus on steering. Downhill Assist Control supports speed control when going downhill. Multi-Terrain Monitor displays images below, in front of and to the side of the vehicle so that users have the most complete view when driving on difficult terrain.
The specific price list of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024 will be announced later. At this time, Toyota only said that the starting price of the car will be around 55,000 USD (1.3 billion VND).
