El Nacional said that immediately after the 2-3 defeat to Atlanta United and being eliminated from the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs, Messi asked the club’s leadership to convince Neymar to join the team. Messi is playing with many former teammates at Barcelona such as Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. M10 is said to “really want to reunite with Neymar” to create the legendary “MSN” trio (Messi, Suarez, Neymar).

The “MSN” trio was once considered one of the most fearsome attacks in football history, helping Barcelona win the great treble in 2015. Messi believes that MLS would be an ideal destination for Neymar, who is going through a difficult time in Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal.

Messi, Neymar and Suarez still maintain a group chat to stay in touch. The Argentine superstar admitted that Neymar joining Inter Miami would be “very difficult” because Neymar’s salary at Al Hilal is too high (nearly 2 million euros/week). In addition, Neymar also considered the possibility of returning to his old team Santos if he left Saudi Arabia.

Last month, Neymar returned to action after a year out with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. However, he tore his thigh muscle in the AFC Champions League match against Esteghlal FC and will be out for another six weeks. Media reports suggest that Neymar’s contract at Al Hilal could be terminated in January 2025.

Neymar joined Al Hilal for 90 million euros in August 2023 and has only played 7 matches, scoring 1 goal and having 3 assists.

If Neymar agrees to join Inter Miami, MLS will become more attractive than ever. The trio “MSN” is expected to shine easily in the top league of American football. Messi and Suarez are also making a strong mark in MLS. Both scored a total of 48 goals last season.
