Messi started 2025 with an unbelievable tour that took him almost all over America in a very short time.
Accordingly, the MLS representative has a total of 5 matches before entering the new season. Specifically, Messi and his teammates will have 2 warm-up matches in the US against Mexico’s America (January 19) and against Orlando City (February 15).
Between these two matches, Inter Miami will have three matches on tour across the Americas from January 30 to February 9, visiting opponents Universitario (Peru), Sporting San Miguelito (Panama) and Olimpia (Honduras).
Thus, in just 9 days, Messi and his teammates will have to travel a very long distance with a total distance of up to tens of thousands of kilometers, and compete in locations very far from the United States. This will be a great physical challenge for a player about to turn 38 like the Argentine superstar.
Messi’s appeal is still huge and of course fans in Peru, Panama and Honduras are all looking forward to Messi playing in the upcoming friendly matches.
Faced with that situation, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas had to speak out to the media: “Certainly, this year’s tour will be much different from last year’s. We don’t want to repeat the same mistake. Ensuring the health of the players is the top priority. We need a Messi who is always healthy and injury-free when entering official matches.”
Last year, Inter Miami toured Asia ahead of the 2024 season and Messi missed several matches, causing a backlash from fans in those locations.
According to the schedule, Messi and his teammates at Inter Miami will officially enter the new season with a match in the CONCACAF Champions Cup (North, Central America and Caribbean Cup) against Sporting Kansas City on February 19.
