Meghan Trainor is walking back comments she made about teachers (erm, specifically, she said “fuck teachers, dude”) during a recent podcast. This extremely !!!! musing came during a chat with Trisha Paytas, who joined Meghan and her brother Ryan Trainor on their Workin’ On It podcast.

“We’re homeschooling our kids,” Meghan said. “Fuck that, everyone on TikTok is, they’re like ‘This is what it’s like to have a kid in school America. I have a bulletproof backpack.’ I was like, fuck all that.”

Trisha then mentioned that she was bullied by kids and teachers in school, and Meghan chimed in with “Fuck teachers, dude.”

In response to backlash (much of which came from teachers in the comments of this YouTube video), Meghan hopped on TikTok and offered an apology.

“Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world, I recently said ‘F teachers’ on the podcast and it’s not how I feel,” she said. “I was fired up because we were talking about how sending your kid to school here in America is so horrific. What all of us have to go through but especially teachers is not normal and not okay. I had Trisha Paytas on the podcast and I knew her history with her teachers, and I knew my husband’s history with his teachers, and I was bullied by some teachers. So in that moment I got angry and said ‘F teachers, F those specific human beings back in the day.'”

“I did not mean all teachers,” she continued. “I love teachers, I fight for teachers. I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid. They are the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don’t want to make excuses, I am just so sorry. I am so sorry to any teachers who I made feel bad. And I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence, and I will be more careful.”
