Man Finds Two Bins On His Lawn, Opens Them And Sees 40 Eyes Staring Back At Him

It was just another ordinary morning in St. Louis, Missouri when this man noticed a car stopping by his house. What followed caught him completely off guard. Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared on Facebook:

“A man walked outside today to see a woman dumping two large totes in his front yard and taking off.”

He was shocked and rushed to check the bins. He noticed that there were holes poked in the lids. When he opened them, he couldn’t believe his eyes! 20 tiny kittens were staring back at him.

Each bin was filled with kittens of all sizes, all trying to scramble out. With no sign of the woman who left them, the man gathered the bins and quickly brought the kittens to SRSL’s shelter.

He told the shelter staff what had happened, but they were still surprised by the whole ordeal. In the first bin, they found eight kittens, around six weeks old. The second bin revealed an even bigger surprise:

“When we opened this one … OH! Babies! Two adults and TEN babies.”

These kittens were old enough to eat on their own, but the tiny ones in the second bin were still nursing. Since the shelter was nearly full, the staff needed to find foster homes fast.

They posted an urgent call for help on Facebook, and by the next day, every kitten had a foster family.

The kittens from the second bin, known as the “Fried Green Tomato family,” went to a foster home where the little ones could nurse. The kittens from the first bin, called the “Sailor family,” were split into foster homes in pairs and groups of four.

Four of the Sailor kittens (Bilge, Rudder, Passerelle, and Lazarette) went home with the shelter’s foster dad Nathan, and they’ve been doing well, as Nathan shared with The Dodo:

“They’re all doing great and adjusting to their temporary home. We have several people interested in adopting [them] already!”

Meanwhile, two more Sailor kittens, Halyard and Scupper, have also found a loving foster home and melted the hearts of their temporary family. Their foster mommy, Quinn shared:

“Halyard and Scupper are super sweet and cuddly! They always snuggle up to each other. They sleep with us every night and love to purr.”

“They immediately bonded to my boyfriend and think he’s their mom. They are so soft and snuggly. I love how sweet and cuddly they are.”

When they’re not snuggling, each kitten enjoys their own favorite activities. Even though they came from the same place, they’ve developed different personalities.

“Scupper loves to play with the cat wand and is very rambunctious. Halyard is a little more reserved and loves to look out at the lake.”

The kittens are currently living with two dogs and five other cats, including two former SRSL residents. As much as Quinn adores them, she knows they’d do even better in homes with fewer animals. Luckily, her friends decided to help:

“My best friend, Autumn, saw me post Halyard and immediately sent in an application and was approved! My other friends, Shannon and Timothy, applied for Scupper!”

Soon, the kittens will move to their forever homes, but they’ll still get to see Quinn often.

After a rough start, these kittens and the others from the bins are finally getting the happy ending they deserve, and it’s all thanks to the kind man who decided to do the right thing the moment he found the abandoned two bins.
