Floyd Mayweather Jr wants to sign Francis Ngannou for fight against Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder
Floyd Mayweather Jr has expressed an interest in signing Francis Ngannou and helping him make the move over to boxing.
Having recently parted ways with the UFC, the organisation’s former heavyweight champion, Ngannou, wants to take up boxing.
And Mayweather, who founded Mayweather promotions, wants to help Ngannou.
He told Bet Online: “I’d love to sign him to Mayweather Promotions.
“If he wants to fight one of the top heavyweight guys, he should do it.
“In the heavyweight division it takes just one shot. With his size, strength, power – anything can happen.”
In terms of who that ‘top heavyweight’ opponent might be, for a while Ngannou has teased a fight with WBC champion Tyson Fury, with the pair coming face-to-face at ringside after ‘The Gypsy King’s’ KO victory over Dillian Whyte last year.
More recently, Fury suggested: “Let’s kick it up spicy, in a cage, four-ounce gloves, under Queensberry [boxing rules], and let’s have a badass referee like ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.”
But, there has not been much progress made on that front and instead, either Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder seem to be more likely options for Ngannou.
“I’m considering everybody [as an opponent],” Ngannou told ESPN.
“I talked to [promoter] Eddie Hearn about Anthony Joshua, I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“The most that we have spoken with is Deontay Wilder‘s team. We’ve been having some exchanges, basically coming to some sort of verbal agreement.”
Wilder has even offered Ngannou a two-fight deal, one in MMA and one in boxing, but for now, who the former UFC heavyweight champion might fight and under which promotional banner he will compete remains undecided.
