Inter Miami’s owners always want Messi to stay with the team long-term. After billionaire Jorge Mas confirmed that he would keep the famous player until 2026, it was David Beckham’s turn to speak up and express his love in a very unique way.

“I want Messi to live in Miami when he retires. But Messi told me that he only thinks about living near the Nou Camp (of Barcelona FC),” David Beckham expressed in a recent interview, when revealing the future of the Argentine star with Inter Miami FC.

David Beckham, chairman and co-owner of Inter Miami with billionaire Jorge Mas, also stressed: “No player loves Barcelona as much as Messi. You can see the Barca logo on his leg and even on his water bottle. We hope and want to keep Messi at Inter Miami for as long as possible, but we cannot convince him to live in Miami long-term after retirement.”

Messi and his Inter Miami teammates are preparing for the 2025 season with a tour of Peru to face Club Universitario at 8am on January 30 (Vietnam time). This is also the final season of Messi’s current contract with Inter Miami. However, the club’s owners are negotiating to activate the extension clause for the next year 2026, and sign another year when the Argentine star turns 40 in 2027.

According to AS (Spain): “Messi is very happy at Inter Miami. Therefore, it is entirely possible that this famous player will reach an agreement to extend his contract and sign for another year in the near future. Inter Miami hopes that Messi will be present when they open their new stadium Freedom Park in early 2026, starting a very promising new start for the team.”

However, Mr. David Beckham, who has a very special love for Messi, suggested that the famous player stay with the team in a different direction, which is to live long-term in Miami with him to continue developing the Inter Miami Club.
