When Chmurka arrived at a cat sanctuary, she was in terrible shape. She had several health issues that needed attention right away.
Her ears were infected beyond help and had to be removed. No one really knew what caused the infection, but it didn’t matter.
Chmurka was a stray, so it was anyone’s guess what she’d been through.
She also had problems with her lip, which was swollen and inflamed. They tried steroids for months, but nothing worked. Eventually, her lip had to be removed, too.
On top of that, she was toothless and really small, but there was something about her – she was just so sensitive, yet so determined to make it.
The owner of the sanctuary had a lot on her plate, 130 cats to take care of, and Chmurka wasn’t getting the attention she needed. So, the owner asked a volunteer to foster her.
The idea was to give Chmurka a calm place to relax, recover, and just be herself, away from the overwhelming environment of the sanctuary.
It was supposed to be temporary, just until she got better and could find a forever home.
Her foster mom wasn’t sure how she’d find someone willing to adopt this kitty. Chmurka was a bit tough feline, and she wasn’t really a fan of other animals.
She’d always get stressed out when they were around. For a while, the woman thought it might be best to find her a quiet home with no other pets.
But over time, things started to change. Chmurka began to relax, becoming more comfortable. She started to trust more, and the bond between them grew stronger.
Eventually, her foster mom realized she didn’t want to let go of Chmurka.
She wasn’t just a foster cat anymore – she became a part of the family, as her mom shared in a YouTube video:
“After a couple of months, I fell in love with her… She kind of found her place here so she became a regular cat, not a foster cat anymore.”
Then something amazing happened. After months of not being interested in any toys, Chmurka suddenly began playing.
One day, out of the blue, she batted at a toy with her little paws. It was a huge milestone for her. It felt like a sign that she was truly starting to enjoy her new life.
She was still a little moody, though. She was very protective of her food and had to have her own bowl. If any of the other cats got too close, she’d let out a loud meow to make sure they knew she wasn’t sharing.
Chmurka was tiny, toothless, and a little disabled, but she didn’t seem to care. She didn’t see her past or her limitations.
She just lived in the moment, and that was so heartwarming to watch, as her mom explained:
“She doesn’t even realize that she’s just this toothless small disabled cat and she’s like, ‘No, I I don’t see my disability.’”
Chmurka isn’t fully settled yet, but every day she seems more at ease. She’s opening up, trusting more, and finding new things to love about her life, as her mom shared:
“She’s not in her final form in a way but again, she’s of course much much better… She’s still feeling more and more comfortable after all the years as a stray cat.”
Her journey wasn’t easy, but she has proven that even a disabled cat can live a full, joyful life. She has her quirks, but that’s just part of what makes her so special.
Now, little Chmurka embraces her chance to just relax and enjoy the little things. She doesn’t anything hold her back. And it’s all thanks to her mom who gave her the love, care, and patience she needed to truly thrive, sharing:
“Sure you have to kind of put your life on their schedule. Of course, there are some challenges but there is beauty in how resilient they are and how they just do not care about their disability at all.”
Chmurka had a rough start, but now she’s ready to enjoy her retirement with people who adore her, and in a home that makes her feel safe. What more could a cat ask for?
