Meet Barley. This magnificent German shepherd was surrendered to the Riverside Animal Shelter on August 25, 2021 by his owner who never glanced back to even say goodbye. Instead his owner went away, and Barley watched. Being brought to his shelter cage, he sobbed out breaking hearts for sure.
An animal advocate expressed her thoughts on social media:
“OH HOW HEARTBREAKING UPSETTING CONFUSING AND TRAUMATIZING FOR A PET TO BE CRUELLY SURRENDERED LEAVING THE POOR BETRAYED PET STUNNED, OVERWHELMED AND HEARTBROKEN. THE OWNER DIDN’T EVEN TURN BACK TO SEE BARLEY ON MORE TIME. IT IS BEYOND CRUEL HEARTLESS, UNACCEPTABLE AND INEXCUSABLE TO SURRENDER ONES LOYAL LOVING AND TRUSTING HUMAN COMPANION.. PLEASE HELP THIS BEAUTIFUL NATURED WONDERFUL LOVING AND PRECIOUS DARLING BOY TODAY.”
