On the morning of June 15, Argentina played the last friendly match before Copa América 2024 with Guatemala. Even though they were far ahead of the Central American representative, the surprise came in the 4th minute.

From the free kick situation for Guatemala on the left wing, Argentina’s defense created an opportunity for Rubin to enter the post near the goal. Emi Martínez pushed the ball but it bounced out. Molina rebounded into the net and Lisandro Martínez tried to clear the ball but only shot straight into the net.

After the loss, Argentina created intense pressure and soon equalized in the 12th minute. Guatemalan goalkeeper Hagen passed the ball straight to Messi in front of an empty goal. Of course this superstar did not miss the opportunity to score.

At minute 39, the score increased to 2-1 for Argentina. Messi passed the ball smartly, creating an opportunity for Carboni to cross into the Guatemala penalty area. This player was fouled and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. From the 11m mark, Lautaro scored to help Argentina advance.

In the second half, Argentina slowed down but still controlled the game. In the 66th minute, Enzo received the ball from Messi before pressing him in the penalty area so that Messi could break the offside trap. Messi alertly pushed the ball aside so Lautaro could shoot into the net. In the 77th minute, Messi completed the match’s double with a gentle pass over the head of the Guatemalan goalkeeper.

Winning 4-1 against Guatemala, Argentina and Messi had the perfect final preparation before the opening day of Copa América 2024.
